Chike C. Nwoffiah is a Nigerian filmmaker, cultural advocate, and arts consultant. Born on July 22, 1965, in Nigeria, he has made notable contributions to the global arts and culture scene, particularly in the realms of African cinema. Nwoffiah’s educational background includes studies at the University of Lagos, Columbia University Graduate School of Business, and the Hollywood Film Institute, giving him a strong foundation in both business and filmmaking.
Nwoffiah’s career spans across Nigeria, the United States, and South Africa. He served as the president of Rhesus Media Group, a full-service film and television production company with international offices. Additionally, he has held the role of executive director at the Oriki Theater in California and contributed to academia as an adjunct faculty member at Menlo College. A founding board member of the Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA), Nwoffiah has been a steadfast advocate for African arts and culture.
As the founder and director of the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF), Nwoffiah has created a significant platform for African filmmakers to showcase their work to a global audience. The festival, which emphasizes cultural exchange and artistic collaboration, has become one of the key events in the African film industry.
In his most recent achievements, Nwoffiah has been vocal about decolonizing African storytelling, advocating for cultural authenticity in the narratives presented by filmmakers. His efforts were recognized in 2022 when he received the Cornerstone of the Arts Award from the San José Arts Commission for his significant contributions to the arts.
