Ego Boyo is a celebrated Nigerian actress, movie producer, and philanthropist, known for her iconic role as Anne Haastrup in the 1980s Nigerian soap opera Checkmate. She is the founder of Temple Productions and Temple Studios, which have been at the forefront of digital filmmaking in Nigeria since the late 1990s. Boyo is also the founder and trustee of the Temple Media Advocacy and Information Foundation, an organization focused on women’s education and healthcare.
In addition to her work in film, Ego Boyo has held significant leadership roles, including serving as the President of the International Women Society (IWS) and as the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Lagos Fringe Theatre Festival. She was named one of British
Vogue’s Forces of Change in 2024, nominated by renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, in recognition of her contributions to women’s rights and education.
A philanthropist at heart, Boyo has been an advocate for women’s empowerment and has worked extensively with non-governmental organizations to highlight key issues through media campaigns. As a producer, she has received numerous accolades, with her 2019 film The Ghost and the House of Truth winning the Best World Narrative Feature award at the African Movie Academy Awards.
