Femi Odugbemi is an esteemed Nigerian writer, filmmaker, and TV content producer, renowned for his contribution to the African film and television industry. With over three decades of experience, Femi is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the United States and a Fellow of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP).
Femi has served as the Head Judge of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) three times (2012-2014) and the Head of Jury at the Uganda Film Festival (2014-2016). His other notable roles include being a juror for the British Council’s “Shakespeare Lives” project in 2016 and a juror for the Emmy Awards in 2012 and 2016. He is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the i-Represent International Documentary Film Festival in Lagos, a platform for showcasing African documentary filmmakers, and also served as the President of the Independent Producers Association of Nigeria (ITPAN) from 2002 to 2006.
A key figure in the development of Nigerian television, Femi was one of the founding producers of the popular MNET daily soap opera “Tinsel.” He is currently the Executive Producer of “Battleground,” a popular TV series aired on DSTV channels across sub-Saharan Africa. His feature films, such as Maroko (2006), Gidi Blues (2016), The Eve (2017), 4thEstate (2017), and various documentaries, have garnered international recognition, with screenings in prestigious film festivals across New York, the United Kingdom, Uganda, Ghana, Paris, and Germany.
As an influential figure in the film industry, Femi has spoken at numerous international film, art, and culture conferences and served on several high-profile juries. In recognition of his outstanding work, he was awarded the Excellence Award by the Society of the Performing Arts of Nigeria (SPAN) in 2013 and the Distinguished Leadership Award by Nollywood@20 in the same year.
Femi Odugbemi’s commitment to storytelling and his significant contributions to the African film and media landscape make him a respected figure in the entertainment industry. He was recently appointed the Academy Director for West Africa at the Multichoice Talent Factory.
